Character Analysis: The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates by Wes Moore

I have not read enough of this book to form full, complete thoughts on each character.  I have some thoughts on a few of the characters though.  I’d like to share them with you.

Westley Moore, the father of Wes Moore:
Westley Moore was a gentle man.  He wanted everyone to be happy.  He wanted the house to be peaceful.  He had his own talk show on a radio station.  He wanted to encourage people and help people he may not even know.  He died from acute epiglottitis.  He should not have died.  This was treatable, but the doctors sent him home.  They numbed his throat so he could not feel himself suffocating.  He died that day, leaving his family behind to fend for themselves.

Joy Moore, the mother of Wes Moore:
Joy Moore was in an abusive relationship prior to her marriage to Westley.  She was very protective of the women in her life, not wanting them to go through the abuse she went through.  Marrying her love, Wes Moore, has shown her a gentler side of life.  She was able to be gentle because he was there to calm her down.  When Wes died, she had to move to her parent’s house.  She could not handle being alone in the house she once shared with Wes.  He was her rock.

Mary Moore, the mother of the other Wes Moore:
Mary was a young girl, just a teenager when she got pregnant with Tony, Wes’s brother.  Her mother was her support when she began have kidney problems.  When she died during surgery, Mary began to fall apart.  She was the first to leave the house.  She got pregnant again with Wes.  Wes was born and Mary was able to begin schooling.  She had always dreamed of being the first t complete school.  When she discovered that her grant was taken away, she was broken.  She thought her chances were over.
